According to the National Alliance for Autism Research, approximately 30-50% of people with autism appear to have a hearing loss.    We have a few resources in our library on this topic of autism and hearing loss but parents may also learn about this dual condition by contacting the organizations and websites listed below.

Resources in Our Library

1.                  Autism and Deafness:  A Psychologist’s Perspective, by Dr. Margaret Creedon, 1989, presented in publications of the Boys Town Research Registry for Hearing loss.  This article discusses the ramifications of autism and deafness together.  (Contact the MN Hands & Voices for a copy.)

2.                  Minnesota Resource Guide for Autism Spectrum Disorders.  This guide, developed by the Minnesota Autism Project and State Low Incidence Discretionary Funds (August, 2000), provides general information about autism spectrum disorders.  Information includes basic facts, early indications, network resources and links.  Call Metro ECSU/Metro SPLISE Project at 612-706-0801, ext. 116 to order a copy.
